Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid annihilated Austrian side RB Salzburg in the UEFA Champions league in order to keep their top 8 qualification hopes alive.
Consecutive performances where it was an all-round effort but the front trio is what stood out.
Here is how the Real Madrid players fared against RB Salzburg.
Player ratings:
Thibaut Courtois: 7.0
Another easy night in goal. Had to just face 2 shots on target and made 2 saved as well. Would be gutted not to have kept a cleansheet but could not have done with the amount of power on that shot.
Fede Valverde: 7.5
It seemed like he was an experienced right back and knew the do’s and don’ts of a player in that position. Nothing fazed him and stuck to his natural game. Defensively solid and went up the field well to assist Vinicius’ second goal of the night.
Raul Asencio: 7.0
Completely matured displays day in and day out. Keeps his calm under pressure and has the knack of playing these long balls (3/5 on the night).
Antonio Rüdiger: 7.0
A rock solid day at the office for the German. Pairs up to make a good duo with the young Spaniard. Won all his duels, made 2 clearances and 3 tackles.
Ferland Mendy: 6.5
Did not offer much up front – as usual – but was not threatened either in the opposition’s attacking transition. Blocked 2 shots and made 1 interception.
Dani Ceballos: 7.5
Played the first pass to Mbappe which resulted in the opening goal. Controlled the midfield in a way Toni Kroos would have. 87/88 passes, 5 tackles, and a clearance too along with winning 6/10 duels.
Luka Modric: 8.0
What a performance from the veteran midfielder who does not seem to be slowing down. 141 touches (119/128 passes), 5/6 duels won, 4 tackles and 2 interceptions. Ran the show in a way only he could do so.
Jude Bellingham: 8.0
Kind of got an unexpected assist for the opening goal but would be proud of the way he set Rodrygo up for the second. A backheel that a fan would want to see again and again. Made 3 key passes and created a big chance also.
Rodrygo: 8.5
Everything seems to be going his way. Last week was sensational on the left wing and for this match, was a menace on the right wing. Can play anywhere in attack and be equally good. 8 goals, 3 assists in the last 10 matches.
Kylian Mbappe: 7.5
Involved in the buildup to the first goal. Other than that looked quiet in the first half and ended up scoring one of the easiest goals of his career.
Vinícius Júnior: 9.0
Real Madrid’s highest and UCL’s third highest goal scorer with this brace. First half did not seem to threaten much but turned on beast mode in the next 45. Modric and Valverde set him up nicely on both goals and the Brazilian did not disappoint. Will not be appearing in the next league fixture.
Substitutes:
David Alaba: 6.5
Ancelotti mentioned that Alaba is close to being a starter and like last match, this display also proved that it is not long before he is in the lineup. Made an interception, played a couple of long balls and defensively held his ground.
Arda Güler: 7.0
A cameo worth watching. Made 3 key passes, 2/4 duels, completed a dribble. Could have had an assist a few minutes after he came on.
Brahim Díaz: 6.0
Perhaps could have come on earlier to make an impact but still managed to have a shot on target.
Endrick: N/A
18 minutes on the pitch and just 12 touches which doesn’t not qualify for a rating.
Jacobo Naveros: N/A
No defensive actions expect a sole clearance, hence does not warrant a rating.
