Ipswich Town will be hoping to follow up their narrow weekend win against Gillingham with another victory against Doncaster Rovers tomorrow evening, something that will be integral in their play-off chase.

Starting the campaign in an underwhelming fashion under Paul Cook, they have given themselves a considerable amount of work to do to achieve a top-six finish this term despite having one of the best squads in the third tier on paper.

This was following a sizeable investment in the playing squad in the summer, with most of their first-teamers from last term being shipped out and a total of 19 new players arriving during that period to make them promotion favourites.

Win Draw Loss

They may have only made a modest four signings during the winter window compared to that recruitment drive in the summer – but they have started to record numerous wins on the board with new-found stability under Kieran McKenna and the ex-Manchester United coach will be hoping this is a sign of things to come.

The Tractor Boys will be facing a Doncaster Rovers side that will be full of confidence following their remarkable result at promotion favourites Sunderland on Saturday afternoon, being dominated during large stages of the game but capitalising at crucial times as they registered a morale-boosting 2-1 win at the Stadium of Light.

These three points could prove to be crucial in their quest for survival – but they won’t be resting on their laurels considering they still sit bottom of the table as things stand with eight points separating Gary McSheffrey’s men and AFC Wimbledon in 20th place.

Focusing more on the visitors at the Keepmoat Stadium though, we have selected the starting lineup McKenna may go with.

Between the sticks, permanent addition Christian Walton retains his place and it would be a surprise to see him not in the starting lineup for the majority of this campaign and beyond after making an impression at Portman Road.

He’s well protected by Luke Woolfenden, George Edmundson and Janoi Donacien who will be looking to keep their second consecutive clean sheet after remaining solid at the back against Neil Harris’ men last weekend.

There is one change in the starting lineup though and it’s an enforced one, with Wes Burns coming off on Saturday in what was a considerable blow to the Tractor Boys, putting a dampener on their three points.

Kyle Edwards is a candidate to start in his place – but he could be exposed defensively considering he usually operates as a forward-thinking winger, possibly allowing McSheffrey’s men to exploit a potential weakness. This is why Kane Vincent-Young comes in despite his red card against Wimbledon – because he should provide an extra layer of protection in the backline.

Lee Evans and Tom Carroll will also be key in a defensive sense – and will be tasked with winning the midfield battle against a relegation-threatened team. Considering their combined experience in the Championship, they should be able to control the game with relative ease.

After reverting to two up top in the last game, Conor Chaplin is the man to keep his starting spot ahead of Bersant Celina, giving both Joe Pigott and James Norwood another opportunity to shine ahead of Macauley Bonne who hasn’t been in the goalscoring form he was earlier in the campaign.
