Vincent Kompany has revealed that Bayern Munich could welcome key midfielder Aleksandar Pavlović back into the squad for next weekend's home game against FC Heidenheim in the Bundesliga.
Injuries to Aleksandar Pavlović and João Palhinha have left Bayern Munich light in midfield, with Leon Goretzka returning from the cold and making the starting XI in the last three matches. But the Bavarians look set to be boosted by the return of Pavlović soon, with Vincent Kompany revealing on Friday that the talented midfielder is making good progress on his recovery from injury.
"Things are going well with Pavlo, but he won't be involved before the Heidenheim game. If he has a good week of training, maybe he'll be there against Heidenheim," Kompany said during his press conference ahead of Bayern Munich's trip to Borussia Dortmund.
When Pavlović suffered his injury during Bayern's clash against VfB Stuttgart in October, it was feared that he could be forced to miss the rest of the hinrunde. But it now appears that he could well make his return to action in time for Bayern's final four games of 2024.
While FC Bayern will have to make do without Pavlović for crunch matches against Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen, having him back in the squad next weekend would be a big boost for the team. The Bavarians have a few tricky tests coming up before the winter break, including against Shakhtar Dontesk in the Champions League and RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga.
Against Borussia Dortmund this weekend, we will likely see Goretzka once again partner Joshua Kimmich in midfield.
