On Tuesday, former Manchester City club secretary and life president Bernard Halford died at age 77 after a battle with cancer.
Halford was synonymous with City and was involved with the club for nearly 50 years.
After over 40 years as a club secretary, Halford was named life president following his retirement and was dubbed āMr. Manchester Cityā by many, including manager Pep Guardiola.
On Wednesday, City captain lead players and staff in a touching tribute along with a moment of silence.
āIāve been at the club for 11 years,ā Kompany said. āI think some of the things we have to do is bring across to people whoāve just joined the club, what the history is.
āBernard Halford has worked at this club for 47 years, and heās been a part of the history of this club and heās been a part of everything thatās happened before we got to this point.
āA big reason why we are here today is because of people like Bernard Halford.
āAnd I know for him it would be the biggest honour to feel that we mentioned his name today and that we have a minute of silence for him.ā
