Antwerp’s top scorer Vincent Janssen has told Het Nieuwsblad he plans to be playing for the Great Old next season. The former Tottenham striker has scored 20 goals in 43 games since joining the club in the summer from Monterrey. His scoring this season had seen him linked with a move away from Belgium, but Janssen is happy in Antwerp and wants to stay.
As he said to the paper ‘Many footballers think: I’m going there, or I’m going to play at that great club. With my life wisdom I now know better. My wife Talia and I really appreciate what we currently have in our hands, both professionally and personally’.
Janssen burst onto the scene in the Netherlands back in 2015/2016 when he scored 31 goals in 49 games for AZ Alkmaar. This saw him earn a move to the Premier League and Tottenham Hotspur, however he struggled to adapt to English football and scored just six goals in 39 games. The 28-year-old moved to Mexico in the summer of 2019 and went on to score 24 goals in 93 games.
At Antwerp, Janssen scored in the cup final as the side beat Mechelen 2-0. Now, they are in pole position going into the final three games of the season to win the title.
