Baena’s contract is valid until June 2025 and it is believed that he has a release clause worth €35m.

Despite having three years left on his current deal, Villarreal have recognised that his good form is attracting interest from other clubs. Thus, the side based in the province of Castellón are keen to extend his contract by two or three seasons, as well as increase his current release clause.

Most Spanish teams would find it difficult to pay his current release clause. However, Villarreal are hoping to increase it to deter interest from top European sides, including Premier League clubs, which have the budget to easily meet the current value of €35m.

Villarreal are 6th in La Liga at the moment, but are hoping to rise up the table to the Europa League or Champions League positions.
