A member of the attacking ranks at La Liga outfit Villarreal has opened up on the mental and emotional impact which the serious injury suffered by Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen had on him.

Ter Stegen, of course, was this past weekend condemned to a long-term spell on the sidelines.

As much came after the German international, during a meeting with Villarreal at El Madrigal, landed awkwardly on his right foot.

Ter Stegen’s leg, in turn, jerked in nasty fashion, culminating in a complete rupture in the patella tendon in his right knee.

The agony was immediately etched across the face of the shot-stopper, who was surrounded by both teammates and opposing players amid efforts to keep Ter Stegen calm.

One such player came in the form of Yeremy Pino, who was left looking particularly distraught, after knocking Barca’s no.1 off balance prior to his unfortunate landing.

The Spaniard is himself fresh off a long-term spell on the sidelines with an ACL injury.

Speaking to the media in the aftermath of Sunday’s action, Pino, in turn, was not shy in admitting that he was left in tears owing to his part in Ter Stegen’s blow.

“I was involved in the play; I didn’t mean to hurt him intentionally,” the Villarreal standout began, as cited by beIN Sports. “It was a combination of things, and I couldn’t control my emotions, so I broke down in tears. I played for five minutes while crying.”
