According to Fabrizio Romano, Villarreal have begun discussions with Olympique de Marseille over Ismaïla Sarr (25) with an initial proposal already tabled for the winger.
The Senegalese international only joined Les Phocéeens in the summer from Watford but due to Marseille’s need to balance their wage bill, will be allowed to leave in the current transfer window.
Villarreal have reportedly made an opening bid for Sarr, which would see the winger join the Spanish club on a loan deal with an option to buy. Romano notes that Sarr would accept a move away from Marseille, and has given his blessing for the negotiations to proceed.
Perhaps the only sticking point to this deal advancing further could be Marseille’s preference for a sale over a loan deal. The club still hope to reinforce their squad this winter as they look to add a left-back and a playmaker to the team but will need to sell before they can buy.
