Villarreal have plenty of money to spend over the final few weeks of the summer transfer window, having closed the sales of Filip Jorgensen, Jorge Cuenca, Ben Brereton Diaz and Alexander Sorloth in the last 10 days. Right now, a new attacker to replace Sorloth is top of the agenda.

They had moved for Borja Mayoral, but doubts over his knee have seen club officials look elsewhere. As per Relevo, they are now targeting Real Betis’ Ayoze Perez, whose €4m release clause would be more than affordable.

Villarreal have already sent a contract proposal to Ayoze, and it’s worth more than the offer he already has on the table from Betis. They missed out on him when he left Leicester City, but they see now as the perfect opportunity to secure his services.

Ayoze had an excellent second half of last season for Betis, and it would be a massive blow if he were to leave. Inversely, he’d be an excellent addition for Villarreal, and given how cheap his release clause is, it would also allow another attacker to be signed.

In other news for Villarreal, they have parted ways with long-serving midfielder Manu Trigueros, who’s joined Granada.
