A few hours after the official announcement of his departure from Villarreal, Eric Bailly has shared a heartfelt farewell message to the Spanish club and its fans.
On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, Eric Bailly officially became a free agent, following Villarreal's formal announcement. The Spanish club opted not to extend the Ivorian defender’s contract, bringing his spell to an end. The former Manchester United player is thus leaving Villarreal, having signed with the club in December 2023.
In response to news of his departure, the Ivorian international offered a message of gratitude to his now-former club.
"Dear Villarreal family, Today, I must say goodbye, for the second time, to what will always be my home. This season and a half has been truly special for me, filled with hard work, commitment, and emotion. Returning to Villarreal felt like reuniting with my family, and I leave with a light heart. Huge thanks to Marcelino, who welcomed me warmly from day one. To the Roig family, for believing in me once again. And above all, thank you to the supporters for your unwavering support at every match, every moment, through thick and thin. To my teammates and all the club staff: it has been an honor to share every day with you. Thank you for making me feel like one of your own, for the camaraderie, the laughter, and the daily work. I gave my all for this trophy and I am proud to have been part of this club during such a wonderful period, including this new Champions League qualification. Because this club deserves everything. Villarreal is and will always be my home, and I will carry you with me everywhere. With love, Eric!" he wrote.
