Barcelona have this week been dealt something of a blow by La Liga rivals Villarreal.
This comes amid confirmation that the Yellow Submarine have pulled the plug on their rumoured move for an out-of-favour member of the defensive ranks in Catalunya’s capital.
The player in question? Clément Lenglet.
The name of stopper Lenglet has of course taken its place front and centre in the media chatter surrounding Villarreal over the course of the last week.
This comes after word was forthcoming that the brass at La Cerámica had identified the Frenchman as a leading transfer target.
Amid their ongoing search for reinforcements at centre-half, Villarreal earmarked Lenglet, owing to both his La Liga experience and left-footedness, as a perfect addition.
As much came as music to the ears of the Barcelona hierarchy, with the club’s efforts to move the big-earning Lenglet on having long been common knowledge.
In turn, it will come as an equally significant blow to learn that, in fact, no such move to Villarreal will be forthcoming.
As per a report from Diario AS:
‘The economic parameters of a possible exit of Lenglet from Barcelona are impossible for Villarreal, at least that is what the Castellón club assures.’
