Villarreal have announced the return of Marcelino as head coach on Monday.
The 57-year-old replaces Pacheta, who was sacked last week after a poor start to the season, which sees them languishing in 14th place following the 3-1 defeat to Atlético de Madrid on Sunday.
El Submarino Amarillo have won just three of their first 13 games so far this campaign but are second in their Europa League group with two wins from their first three continental fixtures.
Villarreal have turned to Marcelino to take the reigns as he returns to a club he managed from 2013 to 2016.
His first period in charge at Estadio de la Cerámica proved to be a successful one with the Spaniard getting the club promoted back to LaLiga in 2013 before leading them to the semi-finals of the Europa League.
He has since enjoyed stints at Valencia and Athletic Club as well as Marseille.
His first game in charge will be against Osasuna on 26 November.
