Aston Villa have been quoted £40m for a potential Jack Grealish replacement in the form of Todd Cantwell, as their talisman edges ever closer to a move to Manchester City.

Despite an improved second campaign back in the top-flight, Dean Smith’s side look set to lose their captain this summer, Grealish the subject of a £100m bid by the champions – a bid which is expected to be accepted.

The 25-year-old’s impending departure has seen the club move swiftly to strengthen their attacking options, with Villa recently agreeing a deal for Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey, the 23-year-old set to join in a £30m deal, subject to a medical and personal terms.

That doesn’t appear to be the end of their transfer activity however, the club on the hunt for a creative midfield addition to fill the void left by Grealish, despite having already signed Emi Buendia from Norwich City for a fee of around £33m.

As per the Sun, Villa could well return to Carrow Road to pluck another of their midfield stars, with Englishman Todd Cantwell reportedly a target for the Midlands club.

The report suggests that the 23-year-old will cost in the region of £40m should Villa wish to sign him this summer and that the Canaries won’t be able to ‘resist the cash’ should such a bid emerge.

Cantwell had previously been keen for an exit following the club’s relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2019/20 campaign, yet after eventually staying at the club, he went on to help them secure the Championship title in fine style last term.

That promotion has perhaps eased the midfielder’s desire to leave as he is now back in the top-flight, although a hefty offer may force Norwich into a sale, despite their current strong financial situation.

As for Villa, Cantwell looks to be their newest target having previously missed on Arsenal playmaker Emile Smith Rowe, the club seeing a number of bids turned down by the Gunners for the youngster, who has since gone on to sign a new deal at the Emirates and be handed the iconic number ten shirt.
