Celtic’s newest recruit has spoken to Celtic TV about his excitement at joining the Scottish champions and the opportunity to work with Brendan Rodgers.
Viljami Sinisalo has joined the Celts from Aston Villa on a five-year deal and the Finland international goalkeeper says it’s a move that he’s been excited about for some time.
“It’s been on the cards for a little while and it’s nice to get it done,” the 22-year-old admitted in an exclusive interview with Celtic TV.
'It feels amazing. It’s an opportunity I can’t turn down and it’s something I was looking forward to as soon as I heard of the interest.'
"I’ve been told about a project for myself and for the football club and I’m excited to join that.
“Hopefully the fans can see a lot more of me over the next couple of years. It’s a project that’s got me here and I’m really excited for it.”
Sinisalo joined Aston Villa at a young age and has enjoyed loan spells at Ayr United, Burton Albion and Exeter City.
The young goalkeeper says that the experience of playing for Exeter City last season was pivotal in making the move to Celtic a reality, and he has revealed that Exeter City manager and former Celt, Gary Caldwell, offered some words of encouragement ahead of his move to Paradise.
Sinisalo said: “Exeter is a brilliant football club and I can’t speak highly enough about it.
“I went in there as a young goalkeeper and played 50 games of men’s football which is really important at such a young age. I learned a lot.
“There were a lot of positives that came from that and the thing is, without Exeter, I probably wouldn’t be sitting here now.
“Without Gary Caldwell, I wouldn’t be sitting here now. He’s only had good things to say about Celtic. I spoke to him and he said I’m joining a wonderful football club, I’ll be looked after and it's special.
'I know it’s a huge football club and it’s really exciting to be part of something so big.'
Sinisalo has also spoken about his excitement at getting the chance to work with Hoops boss, Brendan Rodgers.
“It’s not often you work under great managers such as him,” he said. “I talked to him and the way he spoke about me, how much I felt like he wanted me here, that was what really drew me to come here.
“I can’t speak highly enough of him and I’m really excited to work under him."
