Vilahamn excited to see Spurs contest another North London derby | OneFootball

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Robert Vilahamn is excited to see what his side can do when they travel across North London to take on Arsenal this weekend.

The Lilywhites face The Gunners at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Arsenal go into the game in third place in the Barclays Women’s Super League table, while Spurs are in sixth. The Gunners recorded an impressive 3-1 victory over Manchester United last time out, while Spurs’ last league game was a 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa; their first loss to a team outside of the top four.

Spurs defeated Arsenal 1-0 in the reverse fixture in December and Vilahamn hopes that his side can continue to reach new heights at the Emirates Stadium this weekend.

“We hadn’t beaten them before, so I think that shows what we are capable of, that shows what we want to do every game against them,” Vilahamn said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “I think that was proof that we are taking steps. To beat them again would be even nicer and would show the world that we are taking more steps but I also know that it’s going to be a really tough game.”

Spurs are still very much a work-in-progress but Vilahamn wants his side to find their own way of playing and closing the gap between themselves and the top four.

He said “We want to win in our style, not defend, so we want to find the right way. We need to adapt to make sure that we close the gap. There’s still a gap that we just need to improve.

“I don’t think anyone expects us to win the game, but everybody knows that we can win if we have a great day.”

This weekend’s clash is set to attract another sell-out crowd for Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. Vilahamn hopes that his side can do the same at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the future.

He said “To see this now is amazing and I think this is just the first step. We want to have full stadiums at our own games.

“I’m very impressed with how they have done that; getting the fans to the stadium, selling out a few times and we want to do that. We had a great experience against them at home and I hope we can do that [in the future] but you need to find your way. They are them and we are us and we need to find ways.

“I’m very happy that they’ve done it because I feel like the girls deserve it. Also, the young girls come to games to see their role models and they see that they can be professional footballers in the future and play in full stadiums.”
