The 5-2 win over Cardiff City has been widely recognised as Viktor Johansson's final game as a Rotherham United player.

The captain came off the bench with minutes left in the game, which was his first non-starting appearance of the season, to a brilliant ovation from the home supporters.

The result, and the post-game events of award giving, which saw the goalkeeper take home lots of glass, was a nice end to an awful season.

Rotherham finished a whopping 24 points from safety, and 18 points behind 23rd placed Huddersfield Town.

Last season, they managed to avoid the drop, in large part thanks to their keeper, but he couldn't replicate all of his heroics this time around.

That won't taint his legacy though. The Viking, as he was known, will always be remembered for the way he miraculously kept out the opposition, and the amount of points that he single-handedly won the side over his near four-year stint with the club.

The Millers faithful almost definitely won't see him in their shirt again, and, as his leaving date appears to edge ever closer, Football League World has rounded up all the news surrounding the 25-year-old as he heads on his way out of Rotherham.

Steve Evans gives timeline for Johansson departure

The relatively newly appointed United boss has said that the Swedish international is expected to depart within the next two weeks.

Evans added, via the Rotherham Advertiser: "It will be a life-changing move for him. I don't want that to happen but, you know, he has his future to consider. He's been brilliant for Rotherham United, a terrific servant."

The Scottish manager admitted recently that there were some top Championship sides interested in Johansson. One major club in the league that had been linked with signing him was Leeds United, who were reported to have looked at the keeper as a potential summer option by Swedish outlet Aftonbladet.

The now active release clause in his contract, which became so following the club's relegation, was originally said to be worth around £1 million, but journalist Alan Nixon has said that the value of it is actually £900,000.

In Nixon's report about the falling price of the Rotherham number one, he also said that Derby, who have just been promoted to the second tier from League One, and Stoke are keen on Johansson.

The Potters are said to be leading the race, while former suitors Sheffield United, who the Advertiser claimed to be reported admirers, are said to be looking elsewhere for shot-stopping options, as per the journalist.

Even though he didn't get a full run-out against the Bluebirds at the New York Stadium, Johansson did collect both the Player of the Season and Players' Player of the Season awards after the game.

He then took the time to praise the fans, and said: "You took me under your wing. I appreciate that," as per Paul Davis.
