Viktor Gyokeres’ future at Sporting Clube de Lisbon could be in doubt if Ruben Amorim departs the team this summer.

The striker’s agent has provided an update on his future with the club, which could be of interest to Coventry City.

A number of clubs have been linked with a move for the 25-year-old, including Arsenal and Chelsea.

The Swede signed for the Portuguese side last year in a deal worth a reported €20 (£17.1) million, which also included a 15 per cent sell-on clause.

The Championship side will be keeping a keen eye on the speculation surrounding his future this summer, as it could produce a hefty windfall for the club.

Gyokeres’ agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, has claimed that it will be difficult for the player to remain at Sporting beyond this season if Ruben Amorim departs.

The club’s manager was key to convincing the striker to sign for the current Liga Nos leaders last summer, but is attracting interest of his own from several of Europe’s biggest clubs.

"Victor will be difficult to keep at Sporting if Ruben Amorim decides to leave the club,” said Cetinkaya, via Portuguese outlet Record.

“We had eight offers for Gyökeres last summer, and he joined Sporting precisely because of Amorim.”

Amorim has been linked with potential moves to Liverpool and Barcelona in recent months, with a departure from Sporting looking increasingly likely.

He has earned a reputation as a very promising upcoming coach, and could be set to take over one of Europe’s top clubs for next season.

However, no decision has yet been made over his future, as Sporting contend for the top flight title.

Coventry will be keeping a close eye on proceedings, as the club could earn a significant fee if Gyokeres is ultimately sold.

Viktor Gyokeres transfer value

It has been reported that Gyokeres has a release clause in his contract worth up to €100 (£85.6) million.

That could net the Sky Blues up to around £12 million, on top of the £17 million they already received for his sale last year.

Gyokeres enjoyed an excellent spell at Coventry, helping the team reach the play-off final last season before joining Sporting.

He contributed an impressive 21 goals and 10 assists from 46 appearances in the Championship, as Mark Robins’ side finished fifth in the table (all stats from Fbref).

The Swedish international has gone from strength to strength since moving to Portugal, leading the goal-scoring charts with a tally of 22.

Coventry seeing benefit of sell-on clause

Coventry will really see the benefit of adding a sell-on clause into their agreement with Sporting if that release fee is matched this summer.

Another eight-figure sum coming in would be a big financial boost, and could help the club to further reinvest into their squad without selling any key players.

This could be what’s needed to help bridge the gap between themselves and the top sides in the Championship.

It is this kind of smart negotiating skills that has helped propel the club forward in recent years, and is another example of how well they are now run.
