The Seagulls are in pole position to end the campaign in fifth. They continue the season with a fixture at Leicester City this afternoon.
Going into the weekend, it seemed like a two-way battle for fifth position between Brighton & Hove Albion and Liverpool. When speaking to the media ahead of this afternoon’s trip to The King Power Stadium, Brighton & Hove Albion boss Vidošić said that one of several clubs could yet claim fifth spot and that the focus is solely on the next game.
“I think it’s wider [than us and Liverpool], results can go any way every single weekend,” Vidošić said. “I don’t look at fifth, sixth, first or second; all that matters at the end of the season. There are six games left and if we win those, we can get a maximum of 18 points and that’s what we are going to aim for.
“We are going to go out there, worry about the performance, worry about how we are going to apply ourselves each day in training and try to do the right things. That’s what we’ve been trying to do and when you do that, it gives you the best opportunity.
“We don’t want to just think that we are in a battle with Liverpool only, that disrespects everything and there are good teams around us. We’ve still got a lot of tough games to go, there are no easy games and anyone can beat anyone on the day.
“From me, there’s no attention to the table or fifth place, it’s all attention to Leicester then we prepare for the next battle.”
Leicester City go into the game just three points above the Barclays Women’s Super League’s relegation zone but Vidošić has learnt from past experiences that The Foxes can be a tough opponent.
He said “They’ve got that extra motivation from Palace’s win [against Aston Villa] last weekend, so that brings them all a little bit closer.
“They’re a good side, they can be very dangerous. We learnt that in the two games that we played against them, especially in the League Cup where we weren’t at our best and they showed how deadly they can be. It went to penalties and they were a little hard done by on that day that they didn’t get the result [in 90 minutes].
“It was probably a good thing that we had that game because we took a lot of learnings from it. We know that there’s no such thing as an easy game in this competition. We know that every single weekend, every single day, we have to prepare to the absolute maximum otherwise, you need a lot of luck to then get the result. If we focus on those things, we give ourselves a great opportunity to have a good performance and come away with a good result.”
Brighton & Hove Albion’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Leicester City kicks-off at 3pm.
