Levante hosted Barcelona in gameweek 31 of La Liga in a clash filled with controversy. The visitors were, by and large, the worse team through the game and gave away three penalties in the second half.

While Marc-Andre ter Stegen managed to save one – from Roger Marti -, Jose Morales and Gonzalo Melero converted theirs. The former was to give Levante the lead, while the latter was to equalise after Barcelona had managed to overturn the deficit into a 1-2 lead.

With less than seven minutes of regulation time on the clock, Xavi brought on Luuk de Jong in the hopes of securing a late winner. The Dutchman did not disappoint, scoring a fantastic header in the 92nd minute.

Xavi, whose substitutes had changed the game – both for the better (Gavi, Pedri, Luuk), and worse (Clement Lenglet) – did not hold back his celebrations watching the winning goal.

He turned back, sprinted towards his bench and was seen jumping with his coaching staff while players from the bench flooded the touchline.

Levante away is never an easy game for Barcelona, but now that they have seen them off, second place in the league seems to be theirs to lose. Next up: Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League second place at the Camp Nou.
