An unusually downbeat Fran Alonso rued the missed chances that prevented Celtic getting the three points against a dogged Startans side content on sitting deep in the second half trying to hold onto their 2-1 half-time lead.

And the Edinburgh side were seconds away from leaving Airdrie with the three points before Charlie Wellings scored her 12th goal in 11 games For Celtic to rescue a point deep into stoppage time. Unbelievably Celtic’s substitute, the Irish international Izzy Aitkinson, just back from an injury lay-off (the injury coming on International duty incidentally) found herself one-on-one with the Spartans keeper in the closing seconds of stoppage time but the Spartans keeper kept her out and so Celtic dropped two points.

With Celtic two title rivals later in the day sharing the points in a 1-1 draw it’s as you were at the top of the SWPL1 but it could have been much better.

“We should’ve won the game, and we had so many chances in the second-half. We hit the crossbar and the post twice, and we were a little unlucky with those,” Alonso said on Celtic TV after the game.

The squad rotation has been a concern of ours for a many weeks now and a the Media Conference last week we reminded the Celtic manager of the shadow that was caused by dropping two points to Forfar Farmington last autumn.

The SWPL action takes a break now for an international break and the next match is a league cup tie on 31 October against theRangers at Murray Park. The first two November fixtures for Alonso’s Celtic Fc Women side are a midweek trip to Edinburgh to play Hearts on 3 November followed by a home league match four days later against theRangers on 7 November perhaps the game that will be moved to Celtic Park? Ange Postecoglou’s team are away to Dundee that day so Celtic Park is free and available!

“We will review the game and try to improve, knowing that if we don’t win second balls then teams can hurt you,” Fran said. “We need to pick ourselves up because we’ve got two very important games coming up against (the)Rangers in the cup and the league and we need to be at our best,” Fran said.

It’s now time For Celtic to field the best eleven players and have a settled team for these huge matches that will make or break our season! And it would be nice to hear from Celtic if this is to be the game that is going to be played at Celtic Park as part of the season ticket package for this season.
