Nir Bitton’s Farewell interview with Celtic TV, recorded last Friday ahead of the Trophy Day celebrations and the emotional send-offs given to both the Israeli international Celtic legend and his Australian teammate Tom Rogic, is now available to watch.

Bitton was given a standing ovation on the sixth minute as he sat on the Celtic bench, presumably with a tear or two in his eyes. Rogic was given the shown the same courtesy on the 18th minute while he was playing his part in the 6-0 win over Motherwell and admitted that it was hard to concentrate on the match with so much emotion all around him from the 60,000 Celtic supporters who made sure that both players after almost a decade of distinguished service wearing the Hoops knew what their considerable contribution to the Celtic story means to each and every one of the fans.

“We controlled Scottish football for a decade,” Bitton observed and few could argue with that assessment. He didn’t want to talk too much about his own scoring exploits for the club, some good goals but some were lucky he noted, as it washer him all about the club and playing in the team doing the job numerous managers asked him to do.

“I never thought this day would come but now it’s come it’s a really sad day for me. This is all I know, this club, I’ve been here for nine years as a foreigner, I came here as a young boy,” Bitton told Celtic TV.

“If you told me when I signed here that I would stay for nine years and win 18 trophies and make more than 270 appearances I would have bit your hand. It’s just a great achievement for me and my family and I’m just glad I had the opportunity to play for this amazing club, be part of this decade of the club and I’m very sad to leave.

“This club gave me a lot, it transformed me into the person and player I am today. I’m just glad I had the opportunity to play for this club and have these memories, win as many trophies as I won and make memories for life that will stay with me forever.”

Bitton achieved that and much more wearing the Celtic shirt and leaves carrying what works out to be two medals per season from his time as Celtic’s incredible No 6.
