Manchester United’s Carabao Cup clash with West Ham offered Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the chance to rotate his squad as four players made their first appearances of the season.

Dean Henderson and Alex Telles were among those to feature for the first time this campaign as they recover from prolonged fatigue from COVID-19 and an ankle injury respectively.

Donny van de Beek’s time at Old Trafford has largely been frustrating for the Dutchman and with five games played in the Premier League this season, he is yet to start for Solskjaer’s side.

The midfielder started against Young Boys in the Champions League last week but was hauled off at half-time, owing to Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s red card, which forced a system change from the Norwegian coach.

Van de Beek was in the starting line-up against West Ham on Wednesday afternoon and impressed on his return to the side. He played a deeper role than what he’s used to but handled it with ease, leaving the pitch as United’s best player.

The highlight of the afternoon came shortly after Mason Greenwood was introduced to the pitch – the 19-year-old was lively and was immediately picked out by Van de Beek, as seen above.

Greenwood’s effort was saved but should Van de Beek earn a place in Saturday’s team against Aston Villa, the Old Trafford faithful will be hoping for more of the same.
