The Watford mouthpiece believes there is ‘big club’ officiating bias when it comes to VAR — and he has used United as an example from Saturday’s 1-0 win over West Brom.
United’s meeting with West Brom saw a penalty decision in favour of the Baggies overturned with United awarded a spot-kick just moments later.
Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes were in disagreement after the match in the BT Sport studio, which tells you whatever decision was made at Old Trafford there would have been controversy.
However, Deeney reckons that the human element of VAR is responsible for the bigger clubs being favoured in situations which could see a decision go either way.
Watch Deeney’s take via talkSPORT below:
If the issue is with the personnel using VAR, I’m pretty sure it is changed for each game most weeks, so I’m not buying what Deeney is trying to tell us unless everybody involved supports one of the big six.
Is that the case? It would be great if he had evidence to back it up.
He also puts it down to human nature and says Watford have been getting favoured treatment in the Championship this season.
