Video: Throwback to Xabi Alonso’s wonder goal against Newcastle as he celebrates birthday | OneFootball

Xabi Alonso is celebrating his 39th birthday today and a clip of his incredible goal against Newcastle for Liverpool has been posted on Twitter.

Alonso enjoyed a full five seasons of football at Liverpool, playing over 200 games for the Reds – winning an FA Cup and Champions League winner’s medal.

One of his most memorable moments in a Liverpool shirt, however, was against Newcastle in the Premier League back in 2006. The Spanish midfielder won the ball inside his own half and then pinged the ball 70 yards to lob the goalkeeper after spotting Steve Harper off his line in the Newcastle box.

Amazon Prime shared the clip on Twitter, celebrating his birthday by reliving a glorious goal from his time at Anfield.

After leaving Liverpool, Alonso also enjoyed successful spells with both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. He retired in 2017 after winning a Champions League with Madrid and three Bundesliga titles with the German giants, along with two European Championships and a World Cup for Spain.
