Steven Gerrard was set to leave Liverpool Football Club at the end of the 2014-15 season.
One of Gerrard’s final games as a Red was against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. When Gerrard was substituted during the second half of the Premier Clash, he was given a standing ovation from the Chelsea supporters.
However, come the end of the game, Gerrard was having none of it.
Gerrard said (00:10) that the Chelsea supporters only gave him respect for “a couple of seconds”. He added (00:13) that the Blues fans “slaughtered” him for the entire match.
We understand where Gerrard was coming from. In that particular match, some Chelsea fans were holding up signs to taunt Gerrard about his infamous slip in the 2013-14 Premier League season.
With that being the case, we can understand why Gerrard had no interest in the standing ovation from the Chelsea supporters.
