Chelsea are in the middle of a spending spree the likes of which football has never seen before. The last few days have seen various TV pundits trying to get their heads around how they’re able to do it, but now the debate has rather moved on to what the risks of such a move are.

Dougie Critchley did a good job on Sky Sports, pointing out that hoarding so many young players at once is a risk because only so many of them can play at any one time. As he also notes, the limited spending power of clubs around Europe could also leave us high and dry and stranded with players on long contracts who we can’t sell for anything close to what we paid.
