Giorgos Giakoumakis officially endorsed his new song yesterday afternoon on the first Celtic View Podcast of the new season and revealed that his teammates are now singing it themselves. The Greece international striker is a firm fans favourite and as Celtic edged ever closer towards the title last season this wee song emerged from the ever creative Celtic support…

And it’s certainly something that Giakoumakis enjoys hearing. “I love it whenever they sing my song. I just love it. I just enjoy it. As I said before, it is something that I will always remember it.”

And the Celtic Number 7 revealed that it’s not just the supporters who are loving the Celtic-amended version of Nena’s 99 Red Balloons which was a big hit back in 1984. Now the Celtic players are singing it in training!

“This song, sometimes, when we’re celebrating in the training centre with my teammates, they make fun of me. We don’t have it on the stereo, but they sing on their own,” Giorgos revealed.

The Celtic View is doing a great job re-inventing itself over the past year or so. Rather than a tired and dated weekly print operation, it’s turned into a quarterly review publication and has loads of digital spin-offs including the podcast which for the new season has a much better structure and covers the three Celtic teams – first team, Womens team and the B Team – as well as bringing in a special guest from the playing staff, starting this week with Giorgos Giakoumakis.

It’s well worth a watch…

The Celtic Star’s feature on the new Giakoumakis song dates back to 5 April…
