Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall got a lot of abuse for his dreadful showing in the first leg of this Champions League tie against Copenhagen, and Chelsea’s poor performance in the first period here today made it look like he’d be getting similar treatment.
But he’s just produced a moment of magic to put his team ahead. The former Leicester man somehow wriggled through the Danes’ defence and then unleashed a left footed shot across goal into the side netting to put his team ahead with only their second shot of the game.
The ball did break a little fortunately for him in the melee of legs, but he kept his cool to finish it and that deserves credit. We’ve been very critical of him, but this was some real quality that might prove the difference tonight.
You can see the goal in the clips embedded here:

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Pedro Neto celebrate a Conference League goal.
Let’s hope this opens the game up like Reece James’ long range goal did last week. Qualifying tonight is only part of it, Chelsea need to show some impressive attacking play to wash away the taste of some truly stinking first halves in recent weeks.
There is a lot of uncertainty at Stamford Bridge at the moment, with fans unsure about the style of football Enzo Maresca is trying to implement. A few goals and some energetic attacking play would go a long way to easing the tension.
Ideally Cole Palmer bags a goal too to end his ongoing drought, too. We need him at his best for the Arsenal game this weekend, and he’s miles off it at the moment.
