Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that his intentions are to become Premier League champions.

Despite handing bitter rivals Manchester City with the title following their 2-1 loss to Leicester City on Tuesday night, Solskjaer remains committed to returning England’s biggest trophy to Old Trafford.

Speaking in a post-match press conference on Tuesday night, the Norweigan took the time to congratulate Pep Guardiola’s Citizens but reaffirmed that second place is simply not good enough.

Addressing speculation that the side could be set to spend big in the summer when asked about recruitment plans, Solskjaer said: “That’s a long process [recruitment], but we know what we want to do.

“First of all, congratulations to Man City for winning the league – very worthy champions. We’ve got to hold our hands up and say that.

“But that’s where we want to be, and we’re not there yet.

“They’ve put the bar where it is and it’s up to us now to take the next step.”
