Micah Richards’ ability in the Italian language was a topic of conversation once again during CBS’s coverage of the Champions League on Wednesday evening, as Atletico Madrid and former Fiorentina defender Stefan Savic joked that the Englishman spoke ‘perfect’ Italian.

Richards was on punditry duty alongside Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher and host Kate Abdo for Inter’s exit to Atleti on penalties during Wednesday’s Champions League round of 16 second leg.

Savic, who had played alongside Richards at both Manchester City and Fiorentina, was one of the Atletico players who reported for post-match media duty from the Metropolitano Stadium.

“Are you sure that Micah is not speaking Italian? He was speaking perfect Italian when I was in Fiorentina, maybe he forgot,” Savic said, tongue-in-cheek, during his post-match interview with Italy legend Alessandro Del Piero.

Richards tends to give one or two word responses when asked to prove his ability in Italian.

He was later asked by Abdo: “How good do you think it was at the time? Honest.”

“When I was in Firenze?,” Richards replied, before the studio burst out into laughter at his attempted pronunciation.
