Never short of an opinion or two, talkSPORT pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor has given a controversial take on Kobbie Mainoo’s first start for England.

The young Man United midfielder has burst onto the scene this season and has virtually played his way into Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad.

Though he clearly lacks experience at international level having not made his full debut until this week, Mainoo’s fearlessness could see a more established England player in West Ham’s Kalvin Phillips fail to make the final 23.

“It is really bad news for Kalvin Phillips,” Agbonlahor said on talkSPORT. “Because I feel like no one is even talking about him now.

“Even if he had a good few games at West Ham, I feel like his England chances now that Mainoo has come into it could be over.”
