The two teams went into the second leg level on aggregate (3-3) and they battled it out for 120 minutes before Madrid celebrated victory following the penalty shootout.

One fan left the Etihad Stadium and was caught on camera having a rant about City, accurately criticising their fans.

“I hate Guardiola but I need to say he is one of the best coaches in the world,” the Madridista said. “It is true.

He added: “But let me tell you something as well. City, they don’t deserve this amazing team because the supporters…” The fan in question then made a gesture of a key locking his mouth, referring to how quiet the City supporters were on the night.

“They cannot be like that. You give this team to United and see how excited they will be to see these kind of guys every single weekend. They City supporters… they will realise why they are not as big a team as Real Madrid, or Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Juventus, even Barcelona as well.

“We show we are the big team in Europe and in the world so maybe in the future you will realise how big Real Madrid is as well. Thank you very much.”

Spot on! At least he’s honest…
