Chelsea approached the German after sacking Frank Lampard earlier in the year, but eventually appointed Thomas Tuchel after his time at Paris Saint-Germain.
Speaking to the press following his appointment as interim manager, Rangnick opened up on his old links to Chelsea, with reporters keen to know why it didn’t happen.
He told the press: “When Chelsea contacted me it was just for four months interim manager, without any prospective to work in the long term together.”

Rangnick will take charge of his first game at United on Sunday when the team travels to Crystal Palace in the league.
The aim is to build on Thursday night’s 3-2 victory over Arsenal.
