Former Arsenal and Southampton player Perry Groves has backed Chelsea to be the closest challengers to Liverpool for the Premier League title this season.

Groves has been impressed with Frank Lampard’s change in tactics this season, pointing out that they have become better defensively since the end of last season and the beginning of the current campaign. He highlights the signings of Edouard Mendy and Thiago Silva as being important to that improvement.

He says that they are genuine challengers and will be competing with Liverpool to win the Premier League title, after the Reds picked up their first crown last term.

TalkSport posted the clip on Twitter, with Groves giving his thoughts on the title race.

Liverpool are currently second in the Premier League table, two points ahead of Chelsea in third. Tottenham are the only team above the Reds, with goal difference putting Jose Mourinho’s side on top.
