Victory over Aston Villa on their curtain-closer on Sunday would seal the title, and the Spanish manager was informed of United’s preferred winner in his pre-match press conference.
Liverpool winning the title would mean Jurgen Klopp’s side match United’s record of 20 league triumphs, a scenario many Reds are desperate to avoid.
Prior to the dramatic final-day encounter against Aston Villa, Guardiola argued that everyone in England wanted Liverpool to win the league but has now withdrawn that statement, inviting United fans to celebrate their title if they win it.

“So I was wrong when I said that everyone wants Liverpool to win in this country. I was wrong. Yeah, welcome. If they (United fans) want to join in the streets, they have to wear a blue shirt.”
A scenario where either Manchester City or Liverpool win the league is a nightmare for most United fans but with Erik ten Hag set to walk through the doors at Carrington, there’s hope they will extend their lead at the summit of English football further.
