Erik ten Hag is believed to be officially starting work as Manchester United boss as early as on Monday, with the Dutchman said to be in attendance at today’s Premier League curtain-closer against Crystal Palace.

An official unveiling is planned to take place on Monday, with the 53-year-old gearing up to face one of the biggest summers in the club’s modern history.

Speaking after taking part in this weekend’s ‘Legends of the North’ game against Liverpool, former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has urged the United board to back Ten Hag.

Following a string of failed appointments, the former France international explained how recruitment is paramount, regardless of who the manager is.

“I don’t think a lot of excitement because of a new manager,” he told Sky Sports, as seen above. “That’s where United fans are now, we get excited for a new manager.

“I’m excited to see which team we’re going to build. I will be excited when we’re going to be fighting to win the league, going back to the Champions League.

“Ten Hag is not going to do everything. That’s why when people ask me the question, he will have my full support. You can even put the chef as the Man United manager, he will have my full support.

“But now it’s about the board, the players, what we’re going to do, a better structure. The players, they’ve been here for so many years, the fans are on them. So it brings a lot of negativity around the club.

“We need fresh blood. New players, what kind of players? Players that come for the badge or players that come for the money and the fame? I’m even looking more for players with character and the reason, exactly why they come for United.”

Ralf Rangnick will walk his side out on the pitch for the final time on Sunday, with Ten Hag then set to oversee a huge summer overhaul.
