McCann, 18, unleashed a fine strike to level the scoring against the Toffees in Southport.
United’s young hopefuls have been shown that opportunities will be available for the first-team if they impress and Neil Wood’s side have huge incentive to perform this evening.
Shola Shoretire become the club’s seventh youngest player after making his debut in the 3-1 victory over Newcastle.
The 17-year-old scored six goals for the U23 side and got a couple of touches in a short cameo after coming on for fellow academy graduate Marcus Rashford.
McCann’s powerful strike just before half-time highlighted his quality and came against the run of play against an Everton team who had been dominating.
