Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has absolved Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer of any blame for his team selection against Leicester on Tuesday.

Solskjaer made 10 changes to his United side against Leicester, with Mason Greenwood the only survivor from their win over Aston Villa on Sunday. United played Villa on Sunday, Leicester on Tuesday and now face Liverpool on Thursday night in the Premier League, causing Solsjkaer to tinker with his squad.

Klopp has claimed that he would have done the exact same thing if he was placed in the same situation as the player welfare is important. The German coach has said that it is a ‘crime’ that United have to play three Premier League games in five days, although admits it is a difficult situation altogether as the original match between Liverpool and United was rescheduled.

The scheduling has inadvertently hindered Liverpool’s chances of finishing in the top four in the Premier League. Leicester were able to benefit from United’s mass changes by winning 2-1 at Old Trafford, taking them nine points clear of Liverpool – albeit having played two more games. The Reds could now face a full-strength United XI after their rest on Tuesday and a defeat for Klopp’s side could make Champions League qualification all but impossible with Leicester’s hefty lead on them with minimal games left.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, as shared by Anfield Watch, Klopp responded to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s decision to make 10 changes against Leicester.
