On Monday night, the Ballon d’Or was handed out an award that came down to two men: Paris Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi and FC Bayer Munich’s Robert Lewandowski.

Ultimately, the Argentine forward would come away with his seventh Ballon d’Or, which came with some controversy. A large portion believed that Lewandowski should’ve won the award.

Nonetheless, Messi became the first PSG player to win it, which is a big honor to him, as he stated during his press conference with the media.

“I think I had a good year with Barça, even though we couldn’t win the Champions League and La Liga. We fought until the end for La Liga; we won the Copa del Rey,” Messi said.

“I believe that the Copa America victory was very important so that I could have this new trophy. It is a pride for me to be the first player to win it with the PSG jersey. It is very special; it’s an honor for me to be the first for the club.”
