Liverpool’s European Cup win over Roma in 1984 inspired the Reds’ home kit for 2024-25 which was launched with a video featuring several icons of the Italian culture.

Liverpool have unveiled their new home kit for 2024-25 and it is somehow strictly tied to Italy and its culture.

As explained by the Reds on their website, their new jersey “has a unique collar with traditional yellow and red detailing, a nod to the iconic collar worn by the ’84 team led by Joe Fagan, who lifted the European Cup in Rome that year wearing this original kit. Both the shirt and shorts have yellow and white side panelling.”

Liverpool beat the Giallorossi on penalty at the Stadio Olimpico that year, and it’s one reason Roma fans still see the Reds as some of their biggest opponents in Europe.

“The host city of the 1984 final is also the inspiration for the creative campaign video and photography. Fusing fashion and football, the look pairs the new jersey with premium Italian-inspired fashion pieces and elevated styling,” continued Liverpool.

“Set to The Humming Chorus from Giacomo Puccini’s opera Madame Butterfly soundtrack, the setting conveys Italian classicism with tonal stucco-style backdrops, marble textured flooring, pillars and ornate furniture. The new LFC pattern is embellished within some customised, Italian-themed props.”

The short film released by the Premier League giants, recently eliminated by Atalanta in the Europa League quarter-finals, begins with the Italian word ‘presentare’—to present in English—and Liverpool Film Production written in Italian. Later, Virgin van Dijk poses sitting on a Vespa while Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez eat ice cream and Alisson, an ex-Roma goalkeeper, sits at a table waiting to drink an Espresso.
