Enzo Fernandez has scored to double Chelsea’s lead against Leicester at the King Power Stadium.
The midfielder has had a good game, picking up the assist for Nicolas Jackson’s opener and looking solid on his return to the Premier League team. The captain capped it off by scoring a header from close range after Jackson’s initial effort was saved.
The fact that Enzo is in that position at all is interesting – he really had a lot of license to get forward today, and made use of it by being there in the box ready to snap up the rebound. It’s a great confidence boost for him after some tough times. He’s been disappointing in front of goal in his Chelsea career so far – here’s hoping this sparks a wave of goals from him.
Some have said that he’s better deeper as a playmaker, and there’s some merit to that idea for sure. But in this case, he was right where we needed him.
If you’re of the belief that saved shots count as assists, that’s another goal contribution for Jackson, who is really racking them up this season.

Enzo Fernandez celebrates his goal with a phone gesture.
This was a huge goal for Chelsea and for Enzo, who had lost his place to Romeo Lavia in recent weeks. There have been major question marks about how the Argentine is going to fit in long term, and this is a big statement from him to show he still can offer a huge amount to Enzo Maresca.
These intense weeks to come will see plenty more Enzo – so we’re delighted he’s started in good form.
