Lionel Messi opened the scoring for Paris Saint-Germain in the 1-1 draw against Benfica on Wednesday at the Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica.

The 35-year-old continues to show that the 2021-22 football season was an abnormal year for him. In this 2022-23 campaign, the Argentine has shown he’s back to his usual self ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

During a segment on CBS Sports’ Golazo, Jamie Carragher explained that he intends to put his England allegiances aside so Messi can cement his legacy.

“He’s the best player I think all three of us have ever seen,” Carragher. “You’ve got greats that come before, obviously. Pelé, maybe Johan Cruyff. Of course, we saw Maradona. But I would say Lionel Messi is the greatest player to ever play football.

“And that may not be universal in everybody’s eyes because everyone associates you have to almost win a World Cup. And I would love nothing more than in Qatar for Argentina Lionel Messi to win the World Cup, just to cement them where I see him, but in everybody’s eyes as the greatest player to ever play the game.”
