Liverpool have reportedly been dealt a bigger blow than initially thought with Virgil van Dijk’s injury potentially worse than first feared.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein has revealed in his latest Q&A (21/10/2020) that the damage done to Van Dijk’s knee extends beyond just his ACL, possibly causing further complications in his recovery.

Twitter account Betting Tips at OLBG picked out the clip in his Q&A where he speaks about the latest on Van Dijk’s injury, although Ornstein does stress that it is not official and – at the moment – it is just information that he has heard.

This comes after an official confirmation from Liverpool earlier this week saying that Van Dijk required surgery on an ACL injury picked up in the 2-2 draw with Everton. Initially, a projected return of six-to-nine months was touted, but that could now change with this latest information.

It is now a case of waiting to see if Ornstein’s claim has any truth behind it, with an update from Jurgen Klopp or the club to come if Van Dijk may be out for longer than just the 2020/21 campaign. Fingers crossed for Virgil, though, as this could be a very tough time for the Dutchman facing such a long period of time on the sidelines.
