Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made 11 changes to the side which lost to West Ham four days ago, with captain Harry Maguire and goalkeeper David de Gea regaining their places in the side.
Manchester United made a positive start to the game, pressing high on Aston Villa’s three centre-back’s and engineered a couple of goalscoring opportunities through Mason Greenwood.
There were a few defensive mishaps in the first half, however, with two nearly resulting in Solskjaer’s side going a goal behind for the third consecutive game in all competitions.

Maguire’s backpass was wayward and De Gea’s attempt at controlling it gave Ollie Watkins a clear shot at goal but the Spaniard did enough to stop it.
De Gea, who has started the season in brilliant form, was not happy with his captain as he proceeded to give his team-mate a real rollicking after collecting the ball, as seen above.
Maguire seemed to have acknowledged the error later, with pictures showing the pair in conversation after an attacking move from Manchester United.
