Video: Cornet scores first goal since West Ham move in Genoa victory | OneFootball

Maxwel Cornet scored the first Serie A goal of his career during Genoa’s 2-0 victory over Venezia on Monday evening, which also secured his second victory in three games since joining the Grifone on loan from West Ham United in January.

The Ivory Coast international left West Ham at the beginning of the 2024-25 season to join Southampton on loan, but was recalled in January and immediately sent out on a nother loan to Genoa.

He has since made three appearances, two off the bench, for a total of 97 minutes, which is more than he achieved throughout the first six months of the season with Southampton.

Coming off the bench as a second-half substitute against Venezia on Monday night, Cornet added the second goal of the game with an explosive run and curling finish past Ionut Radu, who couldn’t keep the effort out despite getting a slight touch to it.

Andrea Pinamonti had sent Genoa 1-0 up just a few minutes earlier, which sent Patrick Vieira and his team on their way to an important victory, which puts them within three points of the top half of the Serie A table.
