Cole Palmer… what more can we say.

He gave one of the passes of the season to set up Chelsea’s first goal today, picking out Pedro Neto’s run from deep within his own half.

He then spent the rest of the first period making a mockery of his markers, including one sublime touch around Fabian Schar which got the whole stadium on its feet.

As if that wasn’t enough, he’s just opened the second half by scoring our second goal. The Blues won the ball high up and Palmer dashed towards the Newcastle goal. He looked too far out and too far wide to take a shot on, but his confidence is so high right now that he shot left footed from the edge of the box into near post, somehow beating Nick Pope, who presumably expected a shot across him.

It was bad goalkeeping for sure, but Palmer is able to draw these mistakes from opposition players and make his own luck just by getting so many shots on target.

Chelsea let the lead slip in this game once already, we absolutely can’t let that happen again. The rest of this team continue to be regularly bailed out by the brilliant Palmer – they need to step up and help him out now.

This is a pretty ragged Newcastle team, and we should easily be able to fire a couple of goals in and put the match to bed. Even if we do, it’s another game without a clean sheet, worryingly. We’d say Palmer can’t do it all on his own – but the evidence of the last year is that actually, he can…
