Chelsea survived an early scare against League Two opposition to qualify for the League Cup third round.
This was not a weak side put out by Mauricio Pochettino – it was still half made up of players who started at the weekend, and it was strengthened further by subs as the game went on.
Still, after a soft penalty for the away team, Pochettino’s team had to dig deep to create any chances at all.
Noni Madueke was the live wire who made it happen, drawing the penalty to equalise with some superb skill and then putting the spot kick away.
The second goal was fortuitous too – the ball fell to Enzo Fernandez with the keeper stranded, and the midfielder made no mistake.
