Well this game is going about as badly as we feared. Chelsea really needed to go ahead here, but instead they’ve gone behind.

To make matters worse, they’ve lost another player to injury. They’re already without their two main strikers, and are playing Christopher Nkunku up front – without much success. We desperately need our wingers to chip in with goals, and now we’ve just lost our most goalscoring winger in the form of Noni Madueke.

The winger ducked out of running a 50-50 against Carlos Baleba earlier in the game and people were furious – it shows the lack of determination and grit throughout this squad. But the winger later went off injured with what looks like a hamstring injury, which may explain why he wasn’t willing to go all out in that moment.

Or maybe we’re being too kind to him?

Chelsea down to even more bare bones after another attacking injury

We wrote yesterday how Madueke was going to be crucial for this team with the strikers out. He’s got an eye for goal and can run in behind. He was replaced by Jadon Sancho, who is the opposite type of player. He doesn’t score much and can’t run in behind.

If this injury is serious – and hamstrings tend to be a few weeks at best and a few months at worst – we’re really in deep trouble now in terms of scoring goals. We were praying they had thought up something clever to get some goals out of Maresca and to get Cole Palmer back into clever positions, but it looks very much like last week’s game now.
