On 20 May 1953, Celtic Football Club won the third of three British Cups ever held – The Coronation Cup. Indeed, the Bhoys had won the British League Cup in 1902 and the Empire Exhibition Cup in 1938. However, to win the trophy held in celebration of the Queen’s coronation, with Celtic rank outsiders, was that bit sweeter.

European football did not include British teams until the 1960s and thus winning competitions of this type were some of the most prestigious available. Some would even argue that the Coronation Cup is second only to Lisbon in terms of Celtic’s achievements.
