(Video) Carrick lifts lid on main reason behind decision to leave Man United
Former midfielder and more recently, stand-in manager, Michael Carrick, has confirmed that ahead of Ralf Rangnick’s impending arrival as Manchester United’s new interim boss, he will be leaving the club with immediate effect.
Carrick led the Red Devils out onto the Old Trafford turf for the final time on Thursday night during a Premier League clash against domestic rivals Arsenal.
After claiming a 2-0 victory over Villarreal in the Champions League and a 1-1 draw against Chelsea last weekend, following Thursday’s well-deserved three points against the Gunners, Carrick can hold his head high as he departs the club he spent the last 15 years serving, as both a player and a manager.

Speaking immediately after the game about his decision to leave the club, which was made public just moments earlier, Carrick, when asked what his reasons were, said: “Yes, it’s not been an easy one to make, to be honest.
“I feel it’s the right one. I’m content with my decision, I feel quite happy.
“I was meant to take some time off after I finished playing and I promised the family that we’d have some time together and it’s never happened.
“I think I have thrown myself into working here for so long that it just feels like it’s the right time to step away.”
