Carrick led the Red Devils out onto the Old Trafford turf for the final time on Thursday night during a Premier League clash against domestic rivals Arsenal.
After claiming a 2-0 victory over Villarreal in the Champions League and a 1-1 draw against Chelsea last weekend, following Thursday’s well-deserved three points against the Gunners, Carrick can hold his head high as he departs the club he spent the last 15 years serving, as both a player and a manager.

Speaking immediately after the game about his decision to leave the club, which was made public just moments earlier, Carrick, when asked what his reasons were, said: “Yes, it’s not been an easy one to make, to be honest.
“I feel it’s the right one. I’m content with my decision, I feel quite happy.
“I was meant to take some time off after I finished playing and I promised the family that we’d have some time together and it’s never happened.
“I think I have thrown myself into working here for so long that it just feels like it’s the right time to step away.”
